Renowned Afrobeat artist, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has thrown his support behind celebrated chess Master, Tunde Onakoya, as he strives to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.

Joining Davido in supporting Onakoya are fellow Nigerian singer Adekunle Kosoko, also known as Adekunle Gold, Nigeria’s Consul-General in New York City, Ambassador Peter Egopija, and activist Omoyele Sowore, among others.

Onakoya shared updates on his X account on Thursday, reporting on his progress during the marathon. He noted completing 100 games, including 87 against his main opponent, Coach Shawn Mar, and 13 against external challengers.

With 31 hours elapsed and 27 remaining, Onakoya expressed optimism, urging supporters to continue streaming and donating.

The marathon, taking place at New York City’s iconic Times Square, commenced at 10 am on Wednesday, April 17, and is scheduled to conclude at 8 pm on April 19.

Onakoya aims to play chess continuously for 58 hours without a single defeat.

The current Guinness World Record, established by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway on November 11, 2018, stands at 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds.

With determined support from notable figures like Davido and others, Onakoya strives to surpass this milestone and etch his name in chess history.
