The Dunamis International Gospel Centre in Abuja has issued an apology to Veronica Anyim, a female worshipper, who was publicly confronted by the church’s Senior Pastor, Paul Enenche, over her testimony regarding her educational background.

In a video that went viral, Pastor Enenche questioned the credibility of Anyim’s testimony where she claimed to have graduated with a “Bsc in Law” from the National Open University of Nigeria.

He interrupted her, accusing her of lying and insisted that there is no such degree as “Bsc in Law,” asking her to leave the pulpit.

Following the public backlash and the discovery that Anyim’s testimony was genuine, the church issued a statement on Monday, apologising to Anyim for any harm, hurt, or embarrassment caused.

The statement, signed by Sylvester Edoh, the Personal Assistant to the Senior Pastor, clarified that the intent was not to embarrass Anyim but to uphold standards of excellence and integrity within the church community.

Edoh explained that concerns arose regarding Anyim’s language proficiency and the clarity of her academic credentials during her testimony.

He stated that her speech suggested a level of English proficiency below what might be expected of a university graduate, especially one with a Law degree.

Additionally, discrepancies emerged regarding the nature and duration of her academic pursuit, raising doubts about the legitimacy of her qualifications.

The statement detailed the sequence of events that led to the interruption of Anyim’s testimony, emphasizing that the actions were taken under the spur of the moment and were not intended to publicly embarrass her.

The church reaffirmed its commitment to Anyim’s physical welfare and spiritual growth, expressing regret for the inconvenience, hurt, and embarrassment caused to her.

The incident underscores the importance of handling sensitive matters with care and compassion, especially in a public setting where individuals’ dignity and feelings should be respected.
