Troops deployed in the North-East by the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued Lydia Simon, one of the students abducted from Chibok Secondary School.

According to a statement from the Department of Army Public Relations on Friday, Lydia, identified as serial number 68, was rescued alongside her three children during Operation Desert Sanity III.

“Lydia, listed as serial number 68 among the abducted Chibok Secondary School girls, was rescued with her three children by troops conducting Operation Desert Sanity III in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Lydia was five months pregnant at the time of her rescue and hails from Pemi Town in Chibok,” the statement confirmed.

Out of the 271 students abducted by Boko Haram insurgents, 57 girls escaped shortly after in 2014, 103 were released through Federal Government intervention, 20 others were freed by state government efforts, while 92 students remain in captivity.
