A severe rainstorm battered Sango-Ota, in Ogun State, on Sunday, causing widespread damage to over 40 communities and leaving them without power.
The storm, which struck on Sunday afternoon, brought down electric poles and cables, resulting in traffic disruption along the Sango-Ota highway.
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) confirmed the incident and cautioned residents to steer clear of the damaged poles and cables.

In a public notice, IBEDC listed the affected communities and appealed for caution, stating that their technical team was actively working to repair and replace the damaged infrastructure.
Residents were urged not to attempt repairs themselves but to report any incidents to the appropriate authorities.
Despite the inconvenience, the IBEDC apologized for the outage and assured residents of efforts to restore power as soon as possible.
Videos circulated by residents showed vehicles, including a school bus, cars, trucks, and a tricycle, trapped under fallen utility poles. Concerns were raised about the duration of the repairs, with residents fearing prolonged power outages.
However, they expressed relief that there were no casualties in the incident.
Prior to the storm, residents had reportedly been experiencing low power supply since January 2024.
