In a remarkable feat of academic excellence, Precious Mbajiorgu, a visually impaired pupil from Anambra, has been declared the best candidate in the visually impaired students’ category for the 2022 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Mbajiorgu, who attended St. John of God Secondary School in Awka, displayed outstanding performance in all nine subjects she undertook.

Despite losing her sight to glaucoma in 2008 during her terminal class in a primary school in Awada, near Onitsha, the determined student overcame challenges and learned to use a Braille machine for reading.

Now 21 years old, Mbajiorgu has begun her journey at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, where she is studying Guidance and Counselling.

Elated by her achievement, she dedicated the award from WAEC to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, recognizing his commitment to quality education and empowerment of physically challenged individuals.

“Professor Soludo cares for all, and he is well-focused, not just brilliant,” Mbajiorgu expressed, highlighting the governor’s dedication to inclusive education.

Her story stands as an inspiration, demonstrating resilience and academic prowess in the face of adversity.
