Rhema Ahonsi, a 27-year-old undergraduate at the University of Lagos, is set to make history by attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon.

This follows a recent surge in Nigerians attempting record-breaking feats, spurred by the success of Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon and other remarkable endeavors.

Rhema’s ambitious goal involves singing for an unprecedented duration, aiming to surpass the current record held by India’s Sunil Waghmare, who sang for 105 hours in 2012.

The 200-level Theatre Arts student plans to perform 1,300 gospel songs across various genres, showcasing Nigeria’s rich musical heritage.

Despite facing challenges such as intermittent power supply, Rhema is inspired by the resilience of the Bethesda School for the Blind and aims to symbolize the power of determination in overcoming obstacles.

As he gears up for the record-breaking attempt starting on November 25 at LAMP Studio, UNILAG, GWR’s stringent rules, including continuous singing and a variety of recognizable songs, pose additional hurdles for Rhema’s historic endeavor.
