In a daring operation, troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with local vigilantes, successfully rescued six hostages who had been abducted by bandits in the forested region of Shanga Local Government Area in Kebbi.

The Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Media and Publicity, Malam Yahaya Sarki, announced the successful rescue in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.

The hostages, all male, were reportedly in good condition and have been joyfully reunited with their families.

The operation was carried out by the troops of 1 Battalion, Dukku Barracks, Birinin Kebbi, and local vigilantes targetting Kogon Damisa Hill around Saminaka in Shanga Local Government Area, situated on the border between Kebbi and Niger.

Providing details of the operation, Sarki stated, “The team dislodged a large number of bandits and rescued six kidnap victims. The victims had earlier been reported as missing, whereas they had been abducted a long time ago.”

According to him, the success of the rescue mission highlights the determination and effectiveness of the joint efforts between the Nigerian Army and local vigilantes in combating criminal elements in the region.

Sarki commended the gallant troops for their bravery and commitment to the safety and security of the citizens.

He reiterated the state government’s unwavering commitment to supporting security agencies in their efforts to rid the state of criminal activities.
