A tragic auto crash on the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road claimed the lives of at least 19 persons on Sunday.

The accident was reportedly caused by a driver driving against traffic, resulting in a head-on collision between a Toyota Hiace Bus (NTT52ZY) and a Toyota Corolla salon car.

According to Jonas Agwu, the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), out of the 20 persons involved in the crash, 19 lost their lives, while one survivor sustained injuries.

FRSC Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biu has directed sector commanders to intensify patrol operations to address the issue of route violation, which led to this fatal accident.

The accident investigation report indicated that the crash involved two vehicles: the Toyota Hiace Bus loaded from Ibadan en route Sokoto and the Toyota Corolla salon car.

The injured survivor was rescued by FRSC operatives and taken to Opabode Hospital for emergency medical treatment, while the deceased victims were deposited at the Oyo General Hospital Morgue.

The Corps Marshal urged the motoring public to avoid actions that could lead to road traffic crashes and emphasized the need for strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
