Three individuals tragically lost their lives on Tuesday after a truck plunged off an overhead bridge in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.

Reports indicate that the victims were trapped beneath the vehicle and succumbed to their injuries, while three others sustained injuries in the incident.

Residents gathered at the scene along Zaria Road confirmed the accident, noting that approximately 45 cows were also killed in the crash, which occurred between 4 am and 5 am.

Timothy Garuba, one of the residents present, recounted that the accident occurred as the truck was ascending the flyover bridge within the Gada Biu/Kabong community in the early hours of Tuesday.

He stated, “A truck driver lost control on the Kabong flyover bridge in Jos North Local Government Area early this morning. The truck was carrying cows and passengers around 4:30 am when it fell off the bridge with passengers and some cows trapped under it. I can count 45 cows that are littered on the ground dead. Some passengers are trapped under the vehicle as well.”

Peter Langsan, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, confirmed the casualty figures and stated that both the deceased and injured victims had been transported to the hospital.

Langsan attributed the accident to speeding and cautioned motorists against transporting passengers in vehicles designed for hauling goods.

He emphasized the need for adherence to safety regulations to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
