On Tuesday, a tragic lone accident occurred along the Kaduna – Abuja Expressway, resulting in the loss of four lives and injuries to 59 others.
The accident involved a trailer (Iveco) with registration number MKA 99YS and took place at Sabon Sara village along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway at approximately 3:30 am.
The Kaduna Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission confirmed the incident, stating that combined rescue teams from RS1.113 Zhipe and RS1.17 Birnin Yero carried out the rescue operation.
According to Sector Commander Kabir Nadabo, initial investigations suggested that the crash was likely caused by overloading of goods and passengers, possibly exacerbated by driver fatigue.
Further inquiry revealed that 73 individuals were involved in the crash, with 59 sustaining injuries, and unfortunately, four losing their lives.

Nadabo mentioned that the injured were promptly taken to St. Gerard and AP Smart Hospitals in Kaduna for medical attention.
Expressing concern about recurring accidents during the festive season, Nadabo highlighted the FRSC’s efforts to mitigate road traffic crashes and save lives.
Initiatives included establishing roadside camps at Kakau and Rigachikun for swift response to accidents, providing standby ambulances at key locations with trained personnel, conducting awareness campaigns for road users on safety practices, and enforcing traffic regulations, particularly against overloading.
He commended the support received from the state government and the media in raising awareness for road safety.
Nadabo stressed the collective responsibility to prioritize safety, urging collaboration with the FRSC to ensure the well-being of lives and property on the roads.
