A fire at a hospital in the northern German town of Uelzen has claimed the lives of four people, with several others sustaining injuries, some of them severe, according to local police reports on Friday.
The fire occurred on Thursday night, erupting at 10:45 pm and causing visible flames on the third floor of the hospital, accompanied by a significant amount of smoke.
Emergency services responded to the incident, and the hospital was evacuated as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

Calls for help were reported from inside the building. Initially, the police reported one fatality, but this number was later updated to four. German media suggests that the victims were patients.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, prompting authorities to launch an investigation.
The police spokesman stated that the inquiry is considering all possible directions, and the estimated damage from the incident is over one million euros ($1.1 million).
As of now, the exact reason behind the fire remains unclear.
