In the early hours of Saturday, a tragic incident occurred at Mile 12 Market along Ikorodu Road in Lagos State, where an unidentified man lost his life after being crushed by a containerized truck.

According to reports from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the driver of the truck, with the number plate LSR 901 XV, lost control due to a brake failure while traveling at full speed.

LASTMA operatives apprehended the truck driver after the accident, which happened on the main carriageway by Mile 12 market inward Ketu along Ikorodu Expressway.

Despite efforts by LASTMA officers to save the victim, a scavenger pushing a wheelbarrow, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after the accident.

In the aftermath of the incident, a group of miscreants and thugs attacked the truck driver. However, LASTMA officials, assisted by security officers, managed to rescue the driver and took him to Ketu Police Divisional Headquarters.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakare-Oki Olalekan, urged market leaders to conduct regular safety enlightenment campaigns, particularly discouraging the use of wheelbarrows to convey goods or food items on highways in the state.
