In the village of Kurya, located in the Rabbah Local Government Area of Sokoto State, at least 12 individuals lost their lives in an attack carried out by suspected gunmen on Sunday.

Among the victims were a woman and two of her children, along with her daughter-in-law.

According to a resident who communicated with our correspondent via telephone, the assailants, numbering in large groups, launched the attack around 8:30 pm on Sunday night, firing shots indiscriminately.

The tragic event resulted in the death of 12 people, with four of them reportedly being burned alive.

Yusuf Kurya also mentioned that the gunmen abducted three women from the village, and numerous animals were rustled during the incident.

In response to a distress call from the residents, troops from Operation Hadarin Daji were swiftly mobilized to pursue the attackers, resulting in the death of some bandits during the operation.

Confirming the incident, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State command of the Nigerian Police Force, acknowledged that, according to the latest information from the village, seven individuals were confirmed dead.

However, he cautioned that the number could potentially increase as the investigation progresses, promising to provide further updates once the inquiry is completed.
