A severe rainfall overnight on Wednesday has caused extensive damage to the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State, leading to the escape of 118 inmates.
The spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Adamu Duza, confirmed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
The rainfall resulted in significant harm to the custodial center’s infrastructure, including breaches in the perimeter fence, enabling the inmates to flee.

The Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Francis John, assured the public that the situation is under control and encouraged them to continue their daily activities without fear.
