President Bola Tinubu has administered the oath of office to two additional commissioners of the National Population Commission, Mr. Fasuwa Johnson and Dr. Amid Tadese Raheem, representing Ogun and Osun States respectively.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday at 12:15 pm in the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. This follows their confirmation by the Senate on March 6 and February 13 respectively.

Fasuwa Johnson, born in 1973 in Ododeyo, Ogun State, received his primary and secondary education there.

He holds a Master of Science in Geography from the University of Ibadan and a Master of Business Administration from Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso.

Johnson served as a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly from 2019 to June 2023 and chaired the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure during his tenure.

Dr. Amid Tadese Raheem, born on December 12, 1964, in Iwo, Osun State, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Public Administration from the same university.

He previously served as Commissioner for Water Resources & Energy in Osun State and was the first Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly in 1992. Before his nomination, Raheem served as the Head of the Department of Public Administration at Fountain University, Osogbo.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the Federal Executive Council, led by President Tinubu, observed a minute of silence in memory of two deceased former cabinet members: Prof. Fabian Osuji and Prof. Ogbonnaya Onu.

Prof. Osuji, who served as Minister of Education from July 2003 to March 2005, passed away on February 28, 2024.

Prof. Onu, former Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, and the first civilian governor of Abia State, passed away on April 11, 2024.

Afterwards, the Federal Executive Council convened a closed session, marking its 11th meeting since inauguration on August 28, 2023.

Information Minister Mohammed Idris clarified on October 16, 2023, that the council would convene on Mondays when there were memoranda to consider, deviating from the traditional Wednesday schedule.

If there were no matters for discussion, the meeting would be postponed to the following week.
