Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after attending the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government.
His official aircraft, NAF 001, landed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 04:00 pm local time.
This concludes his 15th foreign trip since assuming the presidency nine months ago, accumulating a total of 73 days abroad.
Upon his arrival, Tinubu was received by top government officials, including his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle; Imo Governor, Hope Uzodinma; Director-General of the Department of State Service, Yusuf Bichi, among others.
During his three-day stay at the AU summit, Tinubu participated in discussions on thematic issues such as climate change and the AU’s involvement and priorities in the G20.

He emphasized the need for African states to forge partnerships transcending borders and sectors to address the continent’s health sector challenges effectively.
In his capacity as the newly-appointed AU Health Champion, Tinubu highlighted the importance of global collaboration in tackling health challenges, stating it as a moral imperative.
Additionally, he affirmed Nigeria’s readiness to host the African Central Bank in line with the Abuja Treaty’s vision.
On Sunday, Tinubu met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to discuss plans for establishing direct flight operations between Lagos and São Paulo, the financial capitals of both countries.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral relations, focusing on increasing trade volume and cooperation in solid mineral exploration, healthcare, and agriculture.
Tinubu’s return coincides with protests in Oyo State over the rising cost of living, underscoring the challenges facing the nation amidst his diplomatic engagements abroad.
