President Bola Tinubu expressed deep sorrow on Wednesday over the passing of the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, describing him as a fearless fighter, brother, confidant, and political soulmate.
In a personally signed statement, Tinubu mourned the departed governor, emphasizing Akeredolu’s commitment to truth and service.
Tinubu highlighted Akeredolu’s legacy as a man of ideas and action, emphasizing the governor’s significant contributions to Ondo State over the past six years.
He praised Akeredolu for serving with absolute loyalty, dedication, and forthrightness during his tenure as the Executive Governor of Ondo State.

Akeredolu, aged 67, succumbed to prostate cancer on Wednesday morning, as confirmed by the state government.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, officially announced the governor’s passing in a statement.
In his tribute titled “I mourn my fearless brother, Rotimi Akeredolu,” Tinubu conveyed condolences to Akeredolu’s wife, Betty, and Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
He urged them to take heart over the national tragedy and pledged to honor Akeredolu’s memory, ensuring that his legacy of service is never forgotten.
Describing Akeredolu’s death as a blow to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the progressive family, Tinubu expressed hope that Aiyedatiwa, the successor, would remain steadfast in upholding the governance vision left by the late political leader.
