Chaos erupted at the national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja on Thursday as suspected thugs assaulted protesting members of the North Central APC during their demonstration in front of the party headquarters.

The demonstrators had gathered at the party secretariat to demand the resignation of the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and the reinstatement of the leadership seat, previously held by Abdullahi Adamu, to the North Central region.

Carrying banners with messages such as ‘Return APC National Chairmanship to North Central’ and ‘Dr. Ganduje, kindly resign to face your prosecution in Kano,’ the protesters called on President Bola Tinubu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, to facilitate a peaceful transition of the party chairmanship seat back to their region.

However, their protest was disrupted when suspected hoodlums attacked them, wielding sticks and causing the demonstrators to scatter.

Following the incident, Hamisu Suleiman, the Plateau State Coordinator of the North Central APC Stakeholders, expressed dismay at the treatment they received, vowing to continue their protest until justice is served.

Suleiman stated, “We were attacked by thugs sponsored by the party while peacefully protesting unfair treatment towards the people of the North Central. The APC chairmanship was wrongly given to Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje. We call on President Bola Tinubu to correct this anomaly.”

Similarly, Sani Jigas, claiming to be the Nasarawa State chairman of the North Central Forum, urged North Central governors to pressure the president during their forthcoming stakeholders meeting to address their grievances.
