The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has strongly condemned the Christmas Eve atrocities that occurred in 20 communities across Mangu, Bokkos, and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

Expressing deep concern, he criticized the security agencies for their failure in intelligence gathering, leading to the tragic loss of over 100 lives.

In a goodwill message delivered at the closing of the 80th National Islamic Vacation Course held at the Air Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, the Sultan called upon the government and security agencies to adopt a more proactive approach and enhance their intelligence gathering techniques.

He stressed the need for swift action, highlighting that the perpetrators, including bandits and terrorists, often outpace security measures.

The Sultan, who also serves as the President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, questioned the efficacy of intelligence gathering mechanisms and urged authorities to prevent such attacks before they occur.

Expressing disappointment in the recurring clashes and loss of lives, he emphasized the responsibility of governments to safeguard citizens’ lives and property.

Addressing the issue of politicizing insecurity, the Sultan warned against such a dangerous approach, asserting that security challenges should not be viewed through the lens of religion.

Drawing from his military service experience, he called for confidence in leadership and emphasized the need for unity among citizens, irrespective of religious affiliations.

He urged citizens to maintain hope, emphasizing the importance of continuous prayers while simultaneously pressuring leaders to take effective action.

The Sultan stressed the collective responsibility of creating a better and safer country, urging leaders to rise to the occasion and address the prevailing challenges in order to avoid further crises.
