The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has urged Igbo leaders to engage with the Federal Government to address legitimate grievances while emphasizing the need for peace in the South-East region.

He made these remarks during the launch of the Peace in the South East Project (PISE-P), initiated by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, in Bende, Abia State.

Tajudeen lamented the economic losses suffered by the South-East due to agitations despite its economic strength.

He emphasized that peace in the South-East is integral to the overall peace and progress of Nigeria.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Musa Krishi, Tajudeen noted that the PISE-P initiative was a response to rising insecurity in the region, which has negatively impacted daily life and socio-economic activities.

He described the project as a historic and patriotic endeavor.

Tajudeen acknowledged the historical economic prowess of the South-East, highlighting its status as an economic powerhouse in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.

He commended the entrepreneurial and resourceful nature of the Igbo people, noting the significant contributions of cities like Aba, Onitsha, and Nnewi to industrialization in Nigeria.

The speaker encouraged Igbo leaders to actively participate in dialogue with the government to address concerns and foster peace and development in the region.
