Senator Olamilekan Adeola, the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has announced the Senate’s commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government to elevate Nigeria’s educational institutions to global competitiveness, focusing on economic and technological development.

Senator Adeola made this announcement during the inauguration of a block of classrooms and office complexes at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, and Federal College of Education, Osiele Abeokuta, all in Ogun State.

These infrastructure projects, valued at over N7 billion, were sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).

During the commissioning ceremony at FUNAAB, Senator Adeola assured that the 10th Senate would continue to support TETFUND through legislative measures to advance tertiary education in Nigeria.

Represented by the former Commissioner for Agriculture in Ogun State, Tope Popoola, Senator Adeola stated, “I wish to reiterate that the National Assembly would continue to work harmoniously with the Executive towards making our educational institutions globally competitive for economic and technological development of the country.”

He added, “I, therefore, wish to use this opportunity to assure you that the 10th Senate under the leadership of the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio and indeed, the entire National Assembly will continue to provide the necessary support to the TETfund through the enactment of legislations that would further advance tertiary education in Nigeria.”

TETFUND’s Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, highlighted that FUNAAB has received allocations totaling N8,759,098,751.25 for infrastructure-related interventions since 2009.

He emphasized that 91.6% of these funds have been accessed and deployed to address infrastructural deficiencies in the university.

Arc. Babatunde Olajide, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at TETFUND, represented the Executive Secretary at the event and emphasized the Fund’s commitment to sustaining and improving interventions to enable institutions to undertake impactful projects, fostering global competitiveness.

The inaugurated projects at the institutions include academic office complexes, seminar rooms, an E-Library, information centers, and various academic facilities designed to enhance the overall learning environment.
