Over the last three months, at least 83 people have lost their lives in road accidents across various parts of the country, with an additional 102 individuals sustaining injuries, as reported by Saving Point Media.

The incidents, spanning from January to March 2024, were largely attributed to high-speed driving and the violation of traffic laws by motorists.

Several notable accidents were detailed, such as a multiple-road crash on the Kaduna-Zaria expressway resulting in six fatalities and 11 injuries due to speeding and reckless driving.

Another tragic incident involved an 18-seater bus from Katsina State Transport Agency, which collided on the Kaduna/Abuja highway, claiming seven lives, including two children.

Other accidents cited include fatal collisions on the Enugu-Abakaliki expressway, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, among others, caused by factors like tire bursts, speeding, fatigue, wrongful overtaking, and road traffic violations.

Authorities from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) expressed concerns over the increasing rate of traffic rule violations, emphasizing the need for continuous education and enforcement to ensure compliance and reduce accidents on the roads.

Efforts are underway to sensitize the public through various platforms, including churches, mosques, markets, and other public spaces, to promote responsible driving behavior and curb the tragic consequences of road accidents.
