The Rivers State Government has vehemently denied reports of a cholera outbreak and deaths in the Soku community of the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.
Dr. Adaeze Oreh, the State Commissioner for Health, emphasized in a statement that such reports are false and unfounded.
The government warned against conducting or planning any health programs in the state without the knowledge of the Ministry of Health, stressing that such activities would be thoroughly investigated and appropriate actions taken.
The statement came in response to comments made by Chief Tony Okocha, the State Representative on the management board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), who disclosed the commission’s deployment of drugs and food items to Soku following reported cholera cases.

The statement reiterated the importance of obtaining approval from and collaborating with the State Ministry of Health for all health outreach activities.
It warned against conducting such activities without clearance, emphasizing that any unauthorized activities would be thoroughly investigated.
The public was urged to disregard rumors of a cholera outbreak in Soku Community, as the Ministry of Health will continue to provide accurate public health information in Rivers State.
The statement aimed to prevent panic among citizens and residents while assuring them of the government’s commitment to their well-being.
