In a bid to restore political stability in Ondo State, President Bola Tinubu has intervened in the months-long crisis between factions loyal to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and his Deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The Presidency clarified on Saturday that Akeredolu remains the governor of the state.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, issued a statement emphasizing the President’s involvement in marathon negotiations that took place at the State House, Abuja.

The negotiations involved Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa, representatives of Governor Akeredolu, federal and state lawmakers from Ondo, officials of the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter, and other stakeholders.

The statement highlighted the President’s advice to all opposing parties to bury the hatchet and embrace peace, leading to commitments in that direction.

As a result, the Presidency affirmed the continuation of Governor Akeredolu in his role as the Chief Executive of the State, with Aiyedatiwa remaining as Deputy Governor.

Members of the State Executive Council are expected to continue their respective duties.

The resolution also preserves the leadership of the State’s House of Assembly and the APC Chapter in Ondo State.

The clarification comes amid reports that President Tinubu might have instructed state lawmakers to invoke the doctrine of necessity and declare Aiyedatiwa the acting governor.

However, the Presidency’s statement solidifies Akeredolu’s position as the governor and signifies a step towards political reconciliation in Ondo State.
