The Katsina State Police Command is intensifying efforts to secure the release of four female students from the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, who are still held captive by bandits.

Police spokesperson ASP Aliyu Abubakar-Sadiq assured the public that collaborative efforts with the school management, relevant stakeholders, and sister security agencies are underway to ensure the safe return of the students.

FUDMA Vice Chancellor, Prof. Armya’u Bichi, expressed optimism about the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the remaining students without paying ransom.

He revealed regular communication with the abducted students and emphasized the commitment of security agencies to deploy more personnel to the university’s permanent site for enhanced security.

The initial abduction occurred on October 3, 2023, when suspected bandits invaded the rented apartment of five female students located behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial School in Dutsin-ma.

The police had earlier arrested a man suspected to be an informant to the criminals.

On November 22, one of the abducted students was confirmed to have regained freedom after about 50 days in captivity.

The Vice Chancellor affirmed that no ransom was paid for her release.

The efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining students.
