The Ogun State Police Command has clarified that religious leaders involved in criminal or unlawful activities are individuals who misuse religion as a cover-up for their nefarious deeds.

In an exclusive interview with Saving Point Media, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, emphasized that religious leaders, especially those claiming to be pastors, engaged in unlawful activities are not genuine but rather malevolent individuals seeking to tarnish the name of God.

Omolola elaborated that while there are indeed reputable and virtuous pastors, the freedom to embrace and practice any religion has unfortunately provided an avenue for unscrupulous individuals to exploit and deceive people under the guise of religion.

She expressed concern over the escalating trend of criminal activities among religious leaders, particularly pastors, which not only tarnishes the reputation of those genuinely serving God but also undermines the integrity of the religious community as a whole.

The Ogun State Police Command, according to Omolola, is committed to tirelessly rooting out evil individuals from various religious circles.

Addressing the perceived increase in crime in Ogun State, Omolola clarified that while criminal activities may seem more prevalent in the state, crime is a nationwide issue.

The continuous exposure of crimes in Ogun State, she explained, may create an impression of higher crime rates compared to other states.

She cited recent incidents such as the ritual murder cases in Aton and Onipan, emphasizing the importance of publicizing such crimes to raise awareness and prevent further occurrences.

The spokesperson acknowledged the challenges of reporting policing activities but affirmed the commitment of the Ogun State Police to transparently document their efforts in combating crime and unveiling criminal acts to deter potential offenders.

Regarding the public exposure of criminals, Omolola stated that it serves as a means of shaming and deterring individuals from engaging in criminal behavior, as the public recognition of their actions serves as a reminder of their misdeeds even after serving their prison sentences.

She reassured residents of Ogun State to carry on with their daily routines without fear, emphasizing the police’s dedication to ensuring the utmost security of lives and properties in the state.
