The Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Professor Bernard Matau, has been relieved of his duties, along with four other heads of tertiary institutions in the state.
This decision was confirmed in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, on Tuesday.
Professor Bernard Matau, who was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University while serving as the state Commissioner for Higher Education during the previous administration led by former Governor Simon Lalong, was among those removed from office.

The other heads of tertiary institutions affected by the decision include the Rector of Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi; Provost of the College of Health Technology, Pankshin; Provost of the College of Health Technology, Zawan; and the Provost of the College of Education, Gindiri.
The statement did not provide any reason for their removal but stated that they should hand over any government property in their possession to the next most senior officers in their respective institutions immediately.
Additionally, the governor approved the cancellation of recruitment earlier conducted by tertiary institutions in 2022 and early 2023 that had been under suspension.
A new, all-inclusive recruitment process for all tertiary institutions will be advertised.
The statement concluded by thanking the chairman and members of the dissolved Governing Council for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.
