Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has strongly condemned the outbreak of communal hostilities that resulted in property destruction and injuries among residents of villages bordering Langtang North and Mikang Local Government Areas of the state.
In response to the violence that erupted over the weekend, Governor Mutfwang expressed his condolences to the victims, labeling the clashes as unwarranted and intolerable.
Confirmation of the situation came from the state Commissioner for Information, Musa Ashoms, who informed The PUNCH in Jos on Sunday.
In a subsequent statement on Monday, the governor urged security forces to apprehend those responsible for instigating the violent attacks in the affected communities.
Issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the statement stressed that such actions undermine the government’s efforts to promote peace and unity among citizens of various ethnic and religious backgrounds, with the aim of advancing the state’s development and prosperity.
Expressing his disappointment over the conflict, Governor Mutfwang highlighted the significance of dialogue as the most civilized and effective means of conflict resolution.
He questioned the rationale behind individuals resorting to violence, taking the law into their own hands, and targeting innocent communities with arson.
