The Anambra State Police Command has announced a successful raid on camps belonging to gunmen and insurgents who have been targeting police formations in the state.

This operation, conducted by a joint security force, was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesman, the raid took place on Friday, March 29, 2024, following recent attacks on police stations in Awgbu and Neni.

The joint security force discovered and destroyed scattered camps of insurgents in the forests of Ogbunka, Orumba South LGA.

During the raid, six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and two walkie-talkies were recovered from the camps. Additionally, substantial food and grocery supplies were found and confiscated.

All identified camps were subsequently destroyed to prevent further attacks.

Ikenga emphasized that the search for insurgents and their camps is ongoing to eliminate the threat posed by these criminals, rescue abducted victims, and recover firearms and stolen vehicles.

Commissioner Adeoye extended Easter greetings to the people of Anambra, assuring them of the police command’s commitment to serving them selflessly despite the risks involved.

He urged citizens to cooperate with the police by providing information about insurgent hideouts, promising to protect the identity of informers to ensure their safety.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the police’s dedication to maintaining peace and security across Anambra State.
