The Oyo State Police Command revealed on Thursday that it had arrested several officers, including Inspector Rasheed Saheed, linked to the alleged killing of Damilola Iyanda, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, in the Ogbomoso area.
Reported by SAVING POINT MEDIA, a police officer allegedly shot Damilola, who was serving in Ibadan, at a nightclub in Ogbomoso, resulting in his death. Damilola, a graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, attended his convocation earlier on the same day of the incident, according to his brother, Oluwafemi Iyanda.
In a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, the police command announced that the implicated officers were detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku.

Commissioner of Police Hamzat Adebola ordered the case to be handled by the Homicide Department of the SCID, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the investigations.
The incident occurred in the early hours of April 22, 2024, when police received a distress call from a nightclub director reporting harassment and property damage by suspected cultists. Inspector Rasheed Saheed led a team to the scene, where an altercation ensued, leading to Damilola’s death and injuries to his brother, Iyanda Femi Israel.
The police statement clarified that all officers involved, including Inspector Saheed, are currently detained at the SCID, Iyaganku, pending further investigation. The command assured the public, especially the student community, of swift justice in the matter.
