The Ojoto community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Monday staged a protest following the killing of a 69-year-old widow and community member, Ifeoma Ajuluchukwu.
The widow was reportedly murdered by her stepson, whose identity was not disclosed, but he happens to be the first son of the deceased’s husband from his first wife.
Although the exact date of the incident remains unclear, protesters gathered at the premises of the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare to voice their grievances.
Led by Emeka Nwabunike, the protesters, including both youths and elders, carried placards with various inscriptions demanding justice for the deceased.

Nwabunike expressed the community’s distress over the alleged gruesome murder of the widow and emphasized their determination to seek justice.
He praised the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, for her proactive involvement in the matter and assured her of the community’s support in securing justice for the slain widow.
In response, Commissioner Obinabo commended the protesters for choosing the appropriate channel to express their grievances rather than resorting to vigilante justice.
She acknowledged the community’s concern and actions taken thus far, assuring them that the matter would be escalated to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s attention.
Obinabo emphasized the state’s stance against injustice, particularly towards vulnerable members of society, and assured the protesters that the government would ensure justice for the murdered widow.
