Operation Delta Safe, led by JTF Commander John Okeke, made a significant discovery on Sunday, uncovering more than 50 illegal crude oil refining sites in the Biseni area of Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
Okeke, who spearheaded the operation, revealed that each of these sites was involved in the illegal refining of stolen crude oil.
Despite prior warnings to cease these activities or relocate, no arrests were made during the operation. Okeke emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating this illicit trade.

Additionally, a large open pit capable of holding over 10 trucks of Alternative Gas Oil was found in the area, believed to be used for storing stolen crude oil before distribution to refining sites.
Reflecting on a previous operation on May 9, 2024, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, Okeke highlighted the persistence of Operation Delta Safe in addressing such illegal activities.
He expressed concern over the escalating nature of the problem and hinted at the possibility of more stringent measures being implemented to tackle it effectively.
Describing the elaborate setup of the illegal refineries, Okeke explained how thieves connected a “theft line” directly to the oil supply line, facilitating the distribution of stolen crude oil to various refining sites.
He stressed the importance of decisive action to curb these activities, emphasizing the detrimental impact on legitimate businesses and government revenue.
Okeke reiterated Operation Delta Safe’s commitment to combating illicit oil activities to safeguard national interests and promote development.
