At the 2024 International Women’s Day (IWD) Celebration held at Waheed Kadiri House, the State Headquarters of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) in Leme, Abeokuta, a call was issued to stakeholders to support policies and initiatives that promote women inclusiveness and amplify their voices in their daily lives.
TPl Olufunmilayo Adegunle, Chairperson of the Ogun State Chapter of the Association of Women Town Planners in Nigeria (AWIPIN), made this call.
Represented by Vice Chairperson TPl Abosede Oguntuyo, Adegunle highlighted the significant contributions of women in the town planning profession to shaping towns and cities.
She emphasized the need for stakeholders to create environments conducive for women’s success.

Dr. Joseph Onabanjo delivered a paper on the 2024 IWD theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” noting that empowering women would not only benefit them individually but also foster positive social and economic outcomes for communities and nations.
Onabanjo urged men to actively support women in breaking down barriers and stereotypes, highlighting that achieving full equality is an ongoing effort.
He emphasized the importance of investing in girls’ education, digital literacy, skill development, and accessible childcare services to enable women to pursue paid labor effectively.
Adefala Sogbesan, Chairman of NITP, emphasized the prioritization of women’s healthcare, leadership roles, and economic empowerment in society.
He advocated for the elimination of discrimination from leadership positions and called for greater inclusion of women in decision-making processes, recognizing the potential of women’s ideas in national development.
