A suspected member of a kidnapping gang, specializing in the abduction of children for sale in Benin Republic, has been apprehended in Ogun State.

The suspect, Tayo Adeleke, was arrested during an attempted kidnapping at Omu Vpempe village in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.

The gang, riding motorcycles, reportedly invaded a Baptist church in the village around 2 am with the intention of kidnapping children.

However, the police, along with So-Safe and vigilante officers, intervened during the process, leading to the arrest of Tayo Adeleke, while two other gang members managed to escape into the forest.

According to the spokesperson of the state police command, Omolola Odutola, the arrested suspect confessed during interrogation to being part of a gang that kidnaps children and transports them across the border into Benin Republic for sale.

Odutola emphasized that kidnappers have shifted their operations from highways to communities due to increased police presence on the state highways.

The collaborative efforts of the police, So-Safe, and vigilante officers contributed to the arrest of the suspected kidnapper, preventing the abduction of children in the process.
