Residents of Iperu Remo, the hometown of Governor Dapo Abiodun and his closest rival in the 2023 gubernatorial election, Ladi Adebutu, have been facing total power outage for the past 120 days.

The youths of Iperu, situated in the Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, have issued a stern ultimatum to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to restore power within seven days or face consequences.

The Iperu Youth Development Association, in a statement titled ‘Total Blackout in Iperu Remo: Youth Gives IBEDC 7 Days Ultimatum to Restore Power or Face Consequences,’ expressed deep concern over the prolonged blackout and the IBEDC’s disregard for their appeals.

Ganiyu Hammed, the Youth President, emphasized the frustration of the community enduring darkness and hardship despite being connected to an 11KVA line, while neighboring towns enjoy uninterrupted power supply from the same line.

Despite repeated appeals and demands for action, the IBEDC has failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or take necessary measures.

The youths have warned of potential protests and the locking of IBEDC’s business offices for 120 days if power is not restored within the stipulated timeframe.

They have notified the Nigeria Police Force, Iperu Remo Division, of their intention to take action.

Concerns about the deteriorating electricity situation and rising insecurity in Iperu Remo have prompted the youths to call for urgent intervention from Governor Dapo Abiodun and other stakeholders.

The IBEDC spokesperson, Busolami Tunwase, attributed the blackouts to restricted allocation, a challenge affecting Ogun State generally.

She assured that the IBEDC is working with stakeholders to improve supply and apologized for the inconvenience caused.

The situation underscores the importance of reliable electricity supply for community well-being and development, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts to address such challenges effectively.
