Merely four days after the Ogun State Police Command declared the arrest of three armed robbers connected to the robbery and rape of Gateway Polytechnic students in Sapaade, fresh attacks have occurred, resulting in the tragic death of one student.
The robbery incident also left nine students with gunshot injuries.
This recent assault follows a protest staged by students and locals a week ago against the initial robbery and assault on female students by the perpetrators.
Reports indicate that students residing in off-campus hotels in Ode, Ipara, and Isara, neighboring communities to Sapaade, were primarily targeted in the latest attacks.

In response to last week’s student protest, the institution’s management temporarily closed the polytechnic for three days to restore calm.
Despite the arrests announced by the police and a meeting held by Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu with student leaders to address escalating tensions, the alleged robbers returned to the troubled communities in the early hours of Saturday, targeting students.
The attack unfolded in the Larufi area of Ode, leaving shattered doors, broken windows, and walls pierced by bullets, as evident in viral videos on Instagram.
Two lecturers, preferring anonymity due to the harrowing nature of the incident, confirmed the latest attack.
One of them described it as a “calculated operation.”
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola did not respond to calls and messages as of press time.
Adedayo Folorunsho, the institution’s Head of Public Relations, declined to comment on the attack, emphasizing that “the security agencies should be allowed to do their job.”
