The Ogun State Police Command has vehemently refuted unfounded allegations of extortion leveled against the command.

Reports had circulated that the Ogun Police extorted ₦5 million from unknown persons detained at Ibara Police Station on December 2, 2023.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, in a statement clarified that the misinformation originated from unscrupulous media sources.

According to her, The command received a public complaint about the detention of an individual named Opeyemi Gbemisola at Isonyin Police Station.

After a thorough investigation, it was determined that no such person was in custody, and the complainant later confirmed Gbemisola’s release from wherever he was supposedly detained.

Odutola said the command initiated an investigation into the alleged extortion last December 2, acknowledging the existence of overzealous policemen from other formations who perform unauthorized duties across various police formations.

The command urged caution and requested that the matter not be distorted without confirmation from the command about the true position of the case.

The statement concludes by refuting the allegations and implores the public to await confirmation from the command regarding the actual circumstances surrounding the case.

She emphasized the command’s commitment to uprightness, professionalism, and the pursuit of fairness and equity.
