In response to the recent spate of robbery attacks and killings in parts of Ogun State, particularly at the Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, the Ogun State Police Command has arrested five new suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, made the announcement on Wednesday while providing updates on the security situation in the state.
The recent incidents involved suspected armed robbers invading communities hosting students of the Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, robbing and shooting some students.
In one of the incidents, the police received a distress call about armed robbers on a rampage in Remo North Local Government Area.
The police responded, leading to an exchange of gunfire with the armed men.

During the confrontation, the armed robbers shot four students walking along the road, and one of the victims succumbed to the injuries while the others were treated and discharged.
The robbers made away with a Lexus car, which was later tracked and recovered in the Oke Itoku area of Abeokuta, the state capital.
Another stolen Lexus car was also recovered, leading to the arrest of some gang members involved in the robberies.
The Commissioner of Police emphasized the commitment of the police force to addressing criminal activities in the state.
He mentioned the deployment of about eight police patrol teams in the affected area to enhance security and curb further incidents.
The arrests and recovery of stolen vehicles mark a significant development in the ongoing efforts to address the security challenges in Ogun State.
