Retired Deputy Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Shem Obafaiye, has provided an explanation for his official kitting following his recent promotion.
The promotion to the position of Deputy Commandant-General was conferred by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Though Obafaiye and his colleagues, Fasiu Adeyinka and Raji, were promoted, it was noted that he was not officially outfitted for the new position.
In a live interview on Channels TV, Obafaiye clarified that he is now retired and revealed that the decision to promote him was approved by the President, the Minister of Interior, and the Commandant General.

He stated, “The president magnanimously approved, my minister of Interior as well, my now Oga at the top, the commandant general, the trio agreed that let him go home with this rank even after retirement.”
Obafaiye addressed the well-known ‘Oga at the Top’ incident, acknowledging that it did not have a significant negative impact on him.
He chose to continue his duties, particularly with the media, after the incident but mentioned that he stopped giving direct interviews.
“No direct interview after that except I made arrests or paraded suspects. I didn’t have any issues with the press; what happened came the way it came.”
Obafaiye rose to fame in Nigeria after a memorable interview on Channels Television in 2013.
During the interview, he struggled to provide the NSCDC’s website, stating that the information would be made known by his “Oga at the top.”
The incident quickly went viral, with remixes and merchandise featuring the “Oga at the top” logo becoming popular.
