The Olubadan-In-Council has nominated Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, following the vacancy created by the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun on March 14, 2024.

The decision was reached during a meeting convened by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital.

Oba Olakulehin’s nomination was made by Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe, in the absence of Otun Balogun, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, who was expected to make the nomination.

The meeting was conducted in accordance with the 1957 declaration, which recognizes high chiefs from Ekerin Balogun and Ekerin Olubadan as the kingmakers. Officials from the Ibadan South East Local Government Area supervised the meeting, and the outcome will be forwarded to Governor Seyi Makinde for ratification.

In his second public appearance after the late Oba Balogun’s demise, Oba Olakulehin expressed gratitude to the residents for their prayers and support.

Chief Ladoja, the meeting’s convener, confirmed the appointment of the new Olubadan, pending the governor’s consent.

He expressed hope for the governor’s swift approval and the subsequent scheduling of the coronation ceremony.

Present at the meeting were prominent figures from the Olubadan-In-Council, including Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole; Osi Balogun, Oba Lateef Adebimpe; Asipa Balogun, Oba Kolawole Adegbola; Asipa Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi; Ekerin Balogun, Oba Dada Isioye; Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade; Ekaarun Balogun, Oba Abiodun Azeeez, and Ekaarun Olubadan, Oba Bayo Akande.
