The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu for his remarks on the union’s recent protest, labeling it as “unacceptable.”
The NLC urged Tinubu to prioritize addressing the significant challenges faced by Nigerians rather than engaging in verbal exchanges with organized labor.
The nationwide protest, organized by the NLC and affiliated unions, highlighted concerns over the rising cost of living, inflation, insecurity, and general hardship experienced across the country.
Despite delivering a letter outlining their demands to President Tinubu, the protest was unexpectedly called off after the first day.
In response to the protest, Tinubu, while unveiling a transportation project, suggested that the NLC was not the sole voice of Nigerians and encouraged the union to participate in the electoral process if interested.

The NLC criticized Tinubu’s focus on partisan issues and distant electoral cycles rather than addressing the urgent needs of the populace.
The NLC highlighted the pressing issues of hunger, unemployment, housing insecurity, and escalating costs of basic necessities, urging Tinubu to prioritize addressing these challenges over political calculations.
The union emphasized its commitment to advocating for effective governance that prioritizes the welfare and security of all Nigerians.
The NLC called on Tinubu to redirect his efforts towards fulfilling the fundamental duties of public office and addressing critical issues such as wage increases, social welfare programs, infrastructure development, and the revitalization of key sectors like education and healthcare.
