The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather report predicting moderate dust haze with reduced visibility and localized thunderstorms across the country on Friday.

The forecast specifically highlights potential risks for road and air travel over the northern region and North-Central states due to a horizontal visibility range of 2 – 5 km caused by suspended dust particles.

NiMet emphasized the importance of precautions in light of the dusty conditions, especially for individuals with respiratory issues.

The agency advised people with asthma and other respiratory problems to exercise caution and limit outdoor exposure during the present weather conditions.

In addition to the dust haze, NiMet forecasted patches of clouds in the hazy atmosphere during the morning hours over inland cities of the South and coastal states.

There are prospects of localized thunderstorms over parts of Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states in the afternoon/evening periods.

The agency called for proactive measures among airline operators, urging them to stay updated with the latest weather reports from NiMet to ensure effective operational planning.

Disaster risk managers, agencies, and individuals were also advised to take proactive steps to prevent potential loss of lives and property.

This information serves as a precautionary measure to inform the public, airline operators, and disaster management entities about the weather conditions expected on Friday and encourages appropriate actions to ensure safety and well-being.
