Rivers United, representing Nigeria, were drawn against reigning champions USM Alger from Algeria during the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals draw held in Cairo on Tuesday.
The team from Port Harcourt aims to make history as the first Nigerian club to win an African competition since Enyimba’s victory in the 2005 CAF Super Cup against Hearts of Oak.
Rivers United secured their spot in the quarter-finals by winning all four home matches but showed less consistency on away grounds with one victory, a draw, and two losses.

In another West African clash, Dreams of Ghana, who topped the group where Rivers finished as runners-up, will face Stade Malien from Mali.
Modern Future will engage in an Egyptian derby against Zamalek, while Abu Salim of Libya will take on Renaissance Berkane of Morocco in a North African encounter.
Teams such as Berkane, USM Alger, Malien, and Zamalek have all previously lifted the Confederation Cup, Africa’s equivalent of the UEFA Europa League.
Rivers United has reached the quarter-finals for the second consecutive season, while Modern Future faced elimination in the group stage last year.
