Niger State Chief Judge Halima Abdulmalik took decisive action at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Suleja, by releasing one inmate and granting bail to four others.
The press statement, signed by Nigerian Correctional Service spokesperson Adamu Duza and distributed to correspondents, confirmed the significant move.
Justice Abdulmalik, accompanied by senior magistrates and key Ministry of Justice officials, meticulously reviewed 60 cases, spanning charges such as murder, kidnapping, and armed robbery. In her deliberations, four inmates received bail, while one was set free.

Emphasizing the importance of custodial center visits to uphold justice, the Chief Judge reiterated her commitment to implementing non-custodial service measures and ensuring prompt access to justice throughout the state.
In addition to her legal duties, Abdulmalik urged the released inmate to steer clear of criminal activities. She extended gratitude to the Nigerian Correctional Service for their support in maintaining security and coordinating the inmates during the process.
Francis John, FCT Controller of Corrections, expressed appreciation for the Chief Judge’s intervention and urged magistrates and justices to consider non-custodial service sentencing to alleviate custodial center congestion. He encouraged the released inmate, Abubakar Umar, to maintain good conduct and seek gainful employment to avoid recidivism.
