Edo State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, has reassessed the panel formed to investigate allegations against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, in line with the assembly’s impeachment procedures.

In a new list disclosed to media through a letter signed by the court’s chief registrar, B.O Osawaru, two members, Prof Violet Aigbokhaebo and Prof Boniface Edegbai, were removed on Monday.

The initial list was released on Friday, and following the revision, the panel is expected to commence its proceedings shortly.

The panel remains chaired by Hon. Justice S.A. Omonua (retd.).

According to the letter, “In accordance with Section 188(5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Edo State Chief Judge, Justice D.I. Okungbowa, has established a seven-person panel to investigate the allegations outlined in the impeachment notice against Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.”

“This follows the resolution passed by the Edo State House of Assembly on March 19, 2024, forwarded to the Edo State Chief Judge.”

The panel comprises Hon. Justice S.A. Omonua (retd.) as Chairman, along with Prof Theresa Akpoghome, Oghogho Ayodele Oviasu, Dr. Andrew Oliha, Idris Abdulkareen, President Aigbokhian, and Mariam Erakhoba Ilavbare as members.
