The Nigerian Correctional Service has announced that no jailbreaks or attacks were reported in any of the 253 custodial centers across the country in 2023.
The Assistant Controller of Corrections Abubakar Umar, in an interview on Thursday said the government implemented comprehensive security measures to counteract potential threats from both internal and external sources.
This success follows a year of increased personnel deployment and intelligence technology to prevent a recurrence of incidents witnessed in 2022.
Umar highlighted that the absence of jail attacks in 2023 reflects the effectiveness of top-level security measures and the dedication of security personnel and various stakeholders.

The accomplishment underscores the commitment to maintaining a secure environment within custodial centers, ensuring the safety of both inmates and staff.
Umar emphasized the importance of proper inmate rehabilitation and reintegration, attributing the peace in custodial centers to the care provided for inmates.
He acknowledged the significance of collaboration and intelligence sharing among law enforcement agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, NCoS authorities, and other security agencies, in maintaining the security of custodial centers.
