Yekini Nabena, the former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has advised President Bola Tinubu not to interfere in the political tensions between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.

Nabena also urged the President not to take sides in the ongoing political power struggle in Ondo State.

Nabena’s warning comes in the aftermath of the demolition of Rivers State House of Assembly quarters following the defection of 27 out of 32 lawmakers to the APC.

A High Court in Port Harcourt had ordered a factional Speaker, Edison Ehie, to preside over the legislative activities in the state pending the determination of a motion.

The court also stopped lawmakers allegedly loyal to Wike from using the assembly premises, citing renovation.

In Ondo State, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who is undergoing medical treatment in Germany, transmitted a letter to the state House of Assembly, notifying them that he had handed over power to his deputy, Lucy Aiyedatiwa, as the acting governor.

Nabena emphasized the importance of respecting the constitution of Nigeria in dealing with the political challenges in Rivers and Ondo states.

He urged President Tinubu and the APC to uphold democratic principles and the rule of law, cautioning against actions that could have negative implications for the party in the future.

Nabena also pointed out that the National Working Committee of the APC does not have the power to dissolve an elected chairman and executive in Rivers, urging the party to be mindful of its actions to avoid legal complications.
