In a surprising turn of events, the mother of a wanted thug in Kano State has handed over her son to the state police command.

The police had earlier announced a N500,000 reward for anyone who could provide information leading to the arrest of the alleged thug, identified as Hantar Daba.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Mohammed Gumel, disclosed this development in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Abdullahi.

According to the statement, during a recent hangout event at Sani Abacha In-door Stadium on October 17, 2023, a transformation occurred in the mindset of the identified youths involved in thuggery.

The statement reads, “The good news is that the last person; Hantar Daba, who had been on the run, finally surrendered himself to the police command yesterday, November 27, 2023. He was led with joy and happiness by his mother and some family members requesting to be part of the amnesty program of the state government.”

Hantar Daba, along with two others, Nasiru Abdullahi and Abba Burakita, had been identified for promoting thuggery, leading the police to place a bounty of N500,000 on each person’s head.

The statement further quotes Daba expressing remorse for his past actions and stating his readiness to participate in promoting peace and sustainable development in the state.

Daba is currently in the custody of the state police command and undergoing profiling.

Commissioner Gumel urged anyone with a complaint against Daba to report to the office of the Police Public Relations Officer at Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano.

The surrender of the wanted thug, facilitated by his mother, adds a unique dimension to efforts aimed at curbing criminal activities and promoting reconciliation in the region.
