The Ogun State Police Command reported the apprehension of a 26-year-old man, identified as Monday Agbowade, for the alleged sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in Araromi Village via Idi-Oke, Ogun State.

According to information from an anonymous eyewitness due to the sensitivity of the matter, it was revealed that the suspect was suspected of engaging in unlawful sexual activities with the minor.

The incident occurred when the young girl was heading out alone, and the accused reportedly enticed her into a nearby bush in an apparent attempt to commit the crime.

As he attempted to subdue the minor, a passerby who witnessed the act raised an alarm, alerting other villagers to the scene. In an effort to escape, the suspect was confronted and restrained by the individual who raised the alarm and other concerned villagers.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said that the suspect had been accused of committing the crime for nearly a month before his arrest on Saturday.

According to her, the family said the suspect had been having unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor for about a month now.

She confirmed his apprehension and further stated that the case would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta once the preliminary investigation is completed.
