Paolo Maldini, former AC Milan technical director, has criticized the €30 million transfer of Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze.

The Rossoneri signed Chukwueze from Villarreal in the summer, making him the club’s most expensive signing with a five-year deal.

In an interview with Italian daily La Repubblica, Maldini, reflecting on his dismissal from Milan on June 5, expressed disappointment with Chukwueze’s performance, stating that the 24-year-old has not justified his hefty transfer fee.

Chukwueze, who scored 13 goals for Villarreal last season, has managed only one goal and one assist in 12 games for AC Milan.

Maldini, who played a key role in bringing in players like Theo Hernandez, Rafael Leao, Mike Maignan, and Fikayo Tomori during his tenure, criticized the signings of Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, and Pulisic, suggesting that the club had better quality options in previous transfer windows.

Maldini clarified that all the players brought in during his time were approved by him, and nothing or no one was imposed on him.

Despite the criticism, Chukwueze is expected to maintain his place in Milan’s starting lineup in their upcoming match against Frosinone.
